Naming a code table

Every code table has a name by which it is known at the SQL level and that name is shown next to the Default name label shown at the top of the code table maintenance screen, as shown above.
However you can define the name by which you want this code table to be referred in your RefTracker system, by supplying a name in the text box next to the Name label. Giving this code table a sensible name will ensure that its purpose is recognisable to you wherever it is used in RefTracker.
For example, it will appear by the name you define here in the list of fields that can be selected in Request forms, and it will appear by this name as a column heading in the RefTracker statistics.
You can also provide a textual description of your use of the code table in the Description box, in order to document how you are using this field. The textual description is for your own records only – it is not used anywhere else in RefTracker.
Exercise:
Enter a name and description for the code table that you are enabling.

You can also add code table items at this stage (by using the Add line) however, we will come back to that later in this manual.
Exercise:
Click on update to complete the process of enabling this code table and giving it a name. The screen will redisplay confirming your changes have been made.
Use the Code tables link at the bottom left of the screen to go back to the code tables summary screen, and in the right grouping screen you will see that your code table now has the name you set for it.
