Roles of Supervisors

Supervisors manage the staff using your RefTracker system, as well as using all of its reference staff functions. They have several roles:

  • Managing user signons
  • Running statistical reports
  • Checking the work of Probationary staff and ServicePoint users for their location or request type area of expertise

You can have as many or as few (including none) supervisor signons in your system, as appropriate required for your site:

  • your system may have no supervisors at all in which case your system administrator performs the supervisor role
  • your system might have one or more supervisors covering the whole system, or you might nominate a supervisor/s for each of your locations if you are using allocation by location, or each of your request groups, if you are using allocation by request group (your request forms determine your allocation method – more about that later).
Supervisors can see how parameters, code tables, data dictionary, request forms and batch processes have been set by their system administrator, but cannot change them. The purpose of being able to see, but not change these things is so that they can see how the parameters controlling the operation of the system have been set and so be sure of how the system is supposed to be performing. Supervisors can find out more about Parameters and Code tables by reading the RefTracker help pages or the System administrator section of this manual.
You may notice that it takes very slightly longer for a Supervisor to log on to RefTracker, than for a normal user. The reason is that RefTracker automatically does a set of housekeeping routines whenever a Supervisor (or Administrator) logs on! In this way RefTracker provides you with a system that appears to require no database administration or housekeeping procedures!
See the System Administrator section of this document for information about the additional roles of System Administrators.
