Utilising browser features

All parts of RefTracker are provided through a web based interface ensuring that it can be accessed by anyone without any special software being loaded on their computer or mobile computing device.

So, in both the client interface, and the RefTracker staff interface, normal browser functions such as the following all work as you would expect for a browser based application.

Hyperlinks – click on the hyperlink and be taken to that function

Back – use your browser Back button any time to go back to a previous screen.Remember RefTracker is a web based application, so information you enter is not saved until you click the Save or Submit button. If you use the Back button before saving any information entered on the current screen, the information will be lost.

Tab – you can move between data entry fields by clicking on the tab key.

End – you can move to the end of a screen (to quickly move to the Submit button for example) by clicking on the End key.

Ctrl f – to find a word in the screen currently showing, press the ‘Ctrl’ key and the ‘f’ key at the same time, enter the word you are looking for in the pop up box, and click Find next.

Some fields may be format enabled – this means that you can copy and paste formatted information from web pages into those fields (Usually the main question field in a form will be format enabled).  In these fields you can use basic formatting functions like:
ctrl b for bold
ctrl i for italic
ctrl u for underscore
ctrl c for copy
ctrl v for paste

Cut and paste – Select some text from anywhere e.g. another web page or a word processing document, copy it (‘Ctrl’ and ‘c’, or right click and choose Copy),and paste it into a format enabled field of RefTracker (‘Ctrl’ and ‘v’, or right click and choose Paste).
The RefTracker system you are using may remove all HTML as you paste, as a security measure against hackers (System administrators should review parameter 2.41 in relation to how this will work for their system).

You can cut and past images into RefTracker.  You can drag the corner of a pasted image to make it smaller.

Drop down boxes – if you type a letter into a drop down box, the drop down box will position itself at the first entry starting with that letter. This is a very efficient way to select entries from regularly used drop down boxes, and those with very long selection lists.

Print – Use your browser’s Print button anytime you want to print what you see on the screen (this even works in the RefTracker help pages).

You can use these functions everywhere in RefTracker. Try them in any RefTracker page you happen to be in right now.
