Changing the text seen by clients (including other languages)

The text used in the RefTracker client interface (and staff interface) can be changed to meet local terminology (see the section above “Customising the text used in RefTracker”). You can also provide interfaces in other languages (see the section above entitled “Language localisation”). Where other languages have been made available the language options appear in the client interface just above the footer. The language used in the client interface, the language used in any forms used by the client, and the language used in emails sent to the client will be in the language they choose to use the client interface in. Further, that language will be recorded in the client language field of the Client data division of the Details tab, to aid the staff member in composing the response in the client’s preferred language.

Note for customer’s using multiple languages – Because most customers do not use multiple languages, Client language is not included in the emails to staff who need to work on the question, such as the Allocation email (refm100 and/or 101) or Reallocation email (refm450).If you want to include this information in the emails sent to staff – to make this information more obvious – you will need to add the {client_language} field in your customer email templates (for all languages).

Customer’s using more than one language may also like to include {client_language} in the Question or Item summary template to make it more obvious.

Clients only have to click on the language they prefer for the rest of their session to appear in that language. In fact the language that will be used for a particular client is determined as follows:

  • Any language specified in the URL string used to display the page, for example [http://<domain>/reft100.aspx?key-newbook&lang=frwill bring up the Newbook form in French (The Language code table shows the enabled language codes that can be used with the “Lang” URL parameter in your system)
  • then any language specified in the RefTrackerPreferences cookie for that client, if one has previously been saved
  • then the language specified by the user’s browser.

For full details of how to customise RefTracker for use in other languages see the section above called Language localisation (under Customising your RefTracker).
