Changing the enabled status of a Data dictionary field
You can change the enabled status of any Data Dictionary field where the Enabled column entry appears in an open box.
Changing to Disabled will take that field out of use in the system. This is a good thing to do for fields you won’t use as it simplifies the system.
When Enabling fields, in most instances the best selection is Optional, as a Required status can be selected in the Request forms, when that is required.
Choose the new enabled/disabled status you want from the drop down and click update.

If the field has not been used anywhere in your RefTracker system the Data dictionary screen will simply redisplay with ticks to indicate that the change was made.
If the field has been used, a display that shows where it has been used and its current enabled status for each of those uses shows.
If you are Disabling the field, this screen shows you the effect of your change on those uses (as they will also be disabled). If you decide you do not want to proceed, simply do not click the Confirm update button, and the change will not be made.
If you are Enabling the field (Optional or Required), you will be given the option to individually set the enabled status of each of the existing uses of that field. If you are viewing the [uses] of a field or code table, this screen will display in a sub window with no ability to change the field’s availability.
