7 – Answering customization parameters

The 7.x parameters have been provided to enable features of the answering process to be configured in, or out, or set so that these screens can match your library’s practices.
7.31 Allow Public attachments: Public attachments are stored in a RefTracker provided web enabled directory where they can be kept up to date so that the question always reflects the latest contents of the attachment. This parameter allows you to prevent use of this type of attachment in your RefTracker system. The most usual reasons for preventing use of this type of attachment are:
- that your IT department has provided a web enabled directory where you can load files and refer them to your clients by simply including their URL in your answer, rather than uploading the attachment to RefTracker.
- that you are using a hosted system where the public directory can only be updated by FTP for emailing updates to your RefTracker supplier, and you do not want to go to the trouble of keeping public documents up to date in these ways.
7.32 Allow Private attachments: Private attachments are usually the default type (controlled by parameter 6.33) of attachment in RefTracker, because they are the most commonly used. This parameter allows you to prevent the use of Private attachments. Private attachments are attached to the question currently being worked on only. They cannot be changed ensuring that the attachment will always be the same as it was when the question was originally answered. Private attachments are automatically deleted when the question is deleted.
If you set all three of these Attachment parameters to No, the links that allows attachments to be added to Answers and Workflows will disappear from the Answer screen, and other screens where they are used like Third party.
7.33 Default attachment load type: Private attachments, saved in the Private attachments folder, are the default type of attachment in RefTracker. This parameter allows customers to change this default to Public should that be appropriate in your case.
Exercise:
Consider the effect of these parameters on your library’s requirements. Make any desirable changes, and if you make any, click on Update. Then in Select parameter group choose 8 – Email.
