Using Dynamic population fields

Where a field has been defined as “Dynamic population“, as this same Matter number field has in the example we have been working with, entry of a valid value in that field will result in the other information defined for retrieval by the Dynamic population lookup, being retrieved. Dynamic population fields are also identified by a symbol with appropriate tooltip.

The retrieved data can be saved into Hidden, Optional and Mandatory fields and where a Hidden field is not used, the information will promptly display in the form, as shown in the “Question” and “Places already looked fields” in the screen print below.

Where retrieved data like this is displayed in an open box (Optional or Mandatory), it can be changed. The fact that the data was placed there as a result of a Lookup, does not change the fact that text in open boxes is amendable by the form user.

If the data in the field defined as the key for the Lookup is changed the Lookup process will start again, and when a new uniquely valid entry is chosen, the information previously retrieved into other fields will be overwritten with the new information just retrieved.
