General Tips and tricks
Here are some tricks and tips that you might like to utilise in your RefTracker system.
Preloading the Public attachment directory
- If you have a number of documents that you use regularly in answers and want to pre-load them into the Attachments Public directory so that staff can find them easily. . . . .
- Create a dummy question e.g. “Do not delete”, in the work database, and attach all the documents to this question.
If this sounds useful to you set it up now.
Method:
Create a dummy question with some question text that indicates it should not be deleted e.g. “Do not delete – preloaded files”
Use Answer to attach all the files that you want to have in the public directory ready for use with other questions.
Save the question – i.e. leave it in the work database.
Advantages:
The advantages of using this technique are:
- its quicker and easier for staff to find the information that you regularly use as attachments to answers – they just need to look in the Public directory in the centre of the RefTracker attach documents sub-window.
- you can review all of the attachments to the dummy question and know that all of your regularly used material has been updated
- There is no chance that a regularly used file will be deleted out of the Public directory simply because the last question using it happened to be deleted.
